The Virginia General Assembly over the weekend passed landmark collective bargaining legislation that grants state and local government employees the freedom to form a union and collectively bargain, regardless of their zip code.

Thanks to this legislation, over half a million public service workers will now have the freedom to negotiate.

This victory is the result of a yearslong grassroots effort by AFSCME members and a coalition of labor partners in that state.

This new legislation will give state and local government workers the voice on the job they deserve to advocate for themselves, for better, safer workplaces, and for the tools they need to better serve their communities.

The bill will now go to Gov. Abigail Spanberger, who is expected to sign it.
